Junk Wax Treasure
Lately, I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic when it comes to sports cards.
I find myself on the hunt for cards that remind me of the game’s past, of my younger days.
I just added a 1985 Topps Kirby Puckett rookie to the inventory, as well as a 1983 Topps Wade Boggs RC, and a 1985 Topps Dwight Gooden rookie card.
In total, these cards cost me less than $25… for all three.
Are they all in gem-mint condition?
Absolutely not, but they are all in very good shape for their age, and they’re already on a mail truck headed to Florida and the fine folks at SGC.
Of course I would love them to come back with high grades, but I’m more concerned about protecting them, preserving them and let’s face it… vintage stuff looks so damn cool in that SGC Tuxedo holder.
So, the plan is to pick up similar cards at shows and online if they look like they’re a decent deal, grade them, and see what happens. They’ll most likely be on the market if it makes any sense, but if it doesn’t — I’ve got a cool collection of vintage cards all slabbed up and ready to be displayed.
Anyone else love these junk wax-era cards as much as I do?
I don’t know, but there’s just something about this era of cards that is so charming and alluring to me.
I love it.
